Five Benefits Of Eating Raw Coconut

RAWCOCONUTS.jpg

Coconuts have long held their position as a pivotal food source for people in tropical regions — and a fruit that's pretty tricky and difficult to remove from its hard and husky shell. Although the idea of opening this superfruit might seem like an intimidating task, the delicious inside and wide spectrum of nutritional benefits are well worth the effort.

1. Raw coconut is rich in dietary fibre, which may boost your health by supporting digestion, boosting metabolism, and normalizing bowel movements.

2. The fibre in raw coconut may also lower the amount of LDL (low-density lipoprotein)  "bad" cholesterol in your bloodstream thereby protecting you against heart disease.

3. Rich in medium-chain triglycerides (a healthy type of dietary fat) raw coconut may keep you feeling satiated for longer leading to a reduced calorie intake over time and consequently, weight loss.

4. Coconut meat is high in the trace mineral Manganese, which helps you metabolise both protein and fats — and also supports stable blood sugar levels.

5. Providing significant amounts of Copper (important for the production of red blood cells and sense of taste) and Potassium (necessary for proper heart function and muscle growth), raw coconut is truly a tropical powerhouse worth including in your diet.

A Raw Organic Good-for-You Chocolate Bar: Monatê

MonateRawChocolateSouthAfrica3.jpg
MonateRawChocolateSouthAfrica2.jpg

The health benefits of raw chocolate (the purer the better) is pretty remarkable: it's loaded with free-radical-fighting antioxidants, minerals like calcium and magnesium,  and B Vitamins. Raw (or really dark chocolate) has also shown to raise serotonin levels, improve cardiovascular health and brain function, reduce the unwanted hormone cortisol, and lower inflammation. The catch: where you get your chocolate from, the quality of it, and the ingredients added to it (if any) really matters. Which is why, I'll be spotlighting my favorite, healthiest (bean-to-bar) good-for-you chocolate bars over the next couple of weeks.

Monatê Raw Artisan Chocolate

Monatê's chocolate is made with magic and love (and is cunningly free of any additives, sugar, dairy, and other nasties). This makes their bars totally guilt-free and filled with antioxidants, essential minerals, heart-healthy fats, and natural bliss chemicals. Monatê's mission is simple: to save the world with raw, artisan chocolate. Luxuriously and exclusively hand-crafted and made with single-origin ethically sourced cacao beans, their chocolate-making process is sustainable and driven by passion. Monatê (pronounced Maw-nah-tee) means delicious in the african language, Sotho — and trust me, their bars truly taste incredible! Each bar is packaged in a unique african-print wrapper and inspired by the natural beauty and culture of South Africa. The Himalayan Sea Salt bar has a perfect balance of sweet and salty flavors and an intensely earthy dark chocolate taste. Yum! It's a bar of real soul superfood that's really good for you and also good for the environment. Bonus: It's suitable for vegans.

The Power Of A Face Mask Ritual

Self-Care Idea

Every so often our bodies signal that it’s time to slow down, unwind, and de-stress. It’s our responsibility to listen to these signals and figure out what we can do to get our moods back into check. For the average little worries of everyday life treating yourself to a face mask is perfect.

This old, yet classic (and proven-to-work-wonders) ritual is a way to dedicate some time and love to your skin and body. Besides taking your mind off the millions of thoughts probably racing through your brain, it also deeply nourishes your skin and makes you look slightly silly—which makes it all the more fun.

Taking the time out for yourself can often be dismissed as vanity, but lighting a candle whilst applying a face mask is in fact an incredibly healing ritual and a method by which to create respect for yourself. I usually find it best to apply a mask right before washing my face at night, although it could also be great first thing in the morning as a means to start your day on a calm and clear note.

Tip: try going digital-free (and reconnecting to life's natural rhythm) in the time the mask takes to work its superpowers. Give yourself permission to cherish and enjoy the moment. I also usually make sure that my bathroom is super neat and tidy to give this ritual an added spa-like feel.

If you practice this ritual on a consistent basis, your new calm energy will radiate from your skin (allowing your natural beauty to shine through). Below, a few of my favorite clean and magnificent face mask picks.

Rich in Vitamin E & C and a true star in fighting free radicals that age the skin, Papaya is a wonderful fruit to include in your daily (or almost-daily) diet. TIP: Add a dollop of greek yogurt, a drizzle of honey, a few crushed almonds - and call it breakfast!
